Special Projects

Neighborhood Entrepreneurs - Council Bluffs, IA

Purpose: To increase the availability, accessibility and affordability of 80 new child care slots for low to moderate income families living in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Outcomes:

  1. The creation and retention of twenty (20) new family child care businesses.
  2. The child care business owners maintained an annual gross income of $35,000.
  3. Affordable and accessible child care is an integral part of the Council Bluffs' economy. Quality child care facilities enables businesses in Council Bluffs to recruit employees, reduce turnover and absenteeism, and increase productivity. These Neighborhood Entrepreneurs allowed children to play in their own neighborhoods and walk to their schools.
  4. Family child care homes located in residential neighborhoods are not as visible as the big chain day care centers, but many families find home-based child care alleviates some of the barriers they face in finding quality child care. Infant care is more readily available.

We want to thank the Iowa West Foundation for supporting quality child care and early childhood education.
